LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, September 9, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Los Angeles City Councilmember Imelda Padilla (District 6) will kick off the City’s Latino and Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations with two landmark events featuring one of Latin music’s most iconic groups, Los Ángeles Azules, connecting a historic cultural recognition in the San Fernando Valley with one of Los Angeles’ most important annual Latino celebrations.— Councilmember Imelda Padilla
On Monday, September 14, Councilmember Padilla and the City of Los Angeles will officially dedicate “Los Ángeles Azules Square” at Van Nuys Boulevard and Chase Street in Panorama City, honoring the legendary group from Iztapalapa for its extraordinary musical career, cultural legacy and enduring connection with generations of Angelenos.
The designation carries special significance in Panorama City, a community with a vibrant Latino and Mexican heritage, and reflects Councilmember Padilla’s commitment to cultural equity, community empowerment and creating public spaces that recognize the people and traditions that have shaped Los Angeles. The location also highlights the cultural and economic importance of the Van Nuys Boulevard corridor and the Councilmember’s ongoing efforts to support its revitalization.
Los Ángeles Azules will be present for the historic unveiling and will leave their handprints as part of the dedication, creating a lasting tribute to their legacy in the San Fernando Valley. Their September 14 appearance will be ceremonial, ahead of their headline performance at El Grito 2026 the following evening at Los Angeles City Hall.
The following day, Tuesday, September 15, Los Ángeles Azules will take the stage as the HEADLINERS of El Grito 2026 at the historic Los Angeles City Hall Spring Street steps, bringing their unmistakable cumbia to one of the City’s most important annual Latino cultural celebrations.
Councilmember Padilla will serve as this year’s official Madrina, leading the civic celebration as thousands of Angelenos come together for an evening of live music, culture and community. Acclaimed Latin soul singer Trish Toledo will open the concert, with comedian and entertainer Concrete (Cristian Gutierrez) serving as Master of Ceremonies.
Together, the two events reflect a central theme of this year’s celebration: honoring Latino culture not only through its history, but through the neighborhoods, artists, families and traditions that continue to shape Los Angeles today.
